Brisk north/northwest wind blowing at 6AM, which meant a slow punch into it from Edgartown to Oak Bluffs @ 4.8 mph average; ducked in the jetties and did one lap around the harbor. Payback came on the return, with 2-3′ following seas and a fair current; fantastic long surfing runs, topping out at 11.2 mph; average speed up to 5.7 by Edgartown Light. A 6-mile loop down Katama Bay and back to Eel Pond brought the distance up to 20.0, but foul current, headwind and low tide on the flats dropped the overall average to 5.5. Tired at finish, but it’s a step in the right direction!
