June 18– A few time trials in Katama Bay in the 21′ 6″ Stellar SEL, which is the faster of my two boats (but not the one I’m likely to do the trip in, since it’s considerably less stable than the 18′ S18S). Keeping heart rate around 120, speed was 6.5 mph with the current, 6.0 against…. slow by racing standards, but since this will be a long-duration effort, I need to focus on paddling at a moderate heart rate, well below the 150-160 norm for distance racing; very relaxing in comparison!
